Why I don't see my Security Keys in HYPR App on VM?

Users can enroll and authenticate with HYPR Workforce Access using Security Keys, such as Yubikey 5, by utilizing HID standard. Usually, HID is not allowed by default on VMs and requires an additional configuration to be supported by HYPR.

VMWare Setup on macOS

To use a Yubikey on Mac’s VM, you need to configure it first. Configuration steps below:

  1. Shut down the virtual machine.

  2. Right click on your VM from the VM Machine Library Window select and Show in Finder.

  3. Right click on the VM then select Show Package Contents.

  4. Locate the .vmx file, right click and open in Text Edit.

  5. Add the two lines below to the file and save.

usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"
usb.generic.allowLastHID = "TRUE"

The Yubikey should now be ready to use. Before use, make sure you connect to it first from the menu bar once connected to your Mac.

Testing your setup

The easiest way to ensure that Yubikey can be recognized by the VM properly is to check with the Yubikey Manager app. Please see the steps below for detailed instructions:

  1. Download Yubikey Manager app

  2. Make sure that your security key is visible by this application when inserted to the USB
